hey just so you know, op of that post you reblogged let the dogs out :/
ppl who celebrate fictional character birthdays are annoying pass it on
FUCK this post and happy birthday sonic

I will always reblog this.
I once spent three hours scouring the internet to find this comic again, I will not let that be repeated.
@signoraviolettavalery I meant to ask last night if you’d ever seen this comic before.
This is one of the few things I always reblog when it comes round, because everyone should get to see it.
Someone brought up the lack of scope people have in regards to the 'Animation is Cinema' sentiment. Or, how people who make those tweets or posts always point out the same four American CGI movies.
So, with that in mind, let me offer:
Millennium Actress (2001)
WolfWalkers (2020)
Persepolis (2007)
When the Wind Blows (1986)
Please feel free to add any other strong pieces! Remember, try to aim for animated films that are either traditionally animated or a from foreign (specifically not Disney/Disney-affiliated) studios.
Finally, an excuse!
Links are provided to the full films where possible, and to trailers otherwise. Feel free to update these links with better versions if available!

The Apprentice (Richard Condie, 1991)
An apprentice jester tries to follow his master to a castle and fails repeatedly. An aggressively strange film which dares the viewer to understand what is happening and why.

The Wolf House (Cristobal León & Joaquín Cociña, 2018)

A young woman runs away from home and tries to live in a constantly transforming abandoned home. Uniquely multi-genre and animates the whole set throughout.

The Cybernetic Grandma (Jiří Trnka, 1962)

Full film, English subtitles: https://youtu.be/HfWYJVevRaA
The Burden (Niki Lindroth von Bahr, 2017)

A musical depiction of animals working mundane jobs and staying in hotels. I was delighted to discover this available online, the final sequence has never left me.

Alice (Jan Švankmajer, 1988)

An adaptation of Alice in Wonderland revolving around a live action girl exploring run-down environments full of eerie stop motion creatures. A thoroughly distinct take on the original story.
Full film, English subtitles: https://youtu.be/Bnbd1exbIco
On-Gaku: Our Sound (Kenji Iwaisawa, 2019)
Three lazy high school delinquents decide to start a band. This movie is perfect.

Plasmo (Anthony Lawrence, 1996)
This is actually a short run series, not a film, but I'm including it anyways. A young transforming alien boy explores space with his friends, searching for his home. Consistently inventive throughout, and made with a great deal of care.

The work of Ralph Bakshi
Definitely films of their time and definitely not for everyone, but to leave out his work and influence on animation would be remiss.

The Tale of the Princess Kaguya by Isao Takahata and Studio Ghibli
Incredible film, moving artistry.

There’s way more but I’m too distracted. Hope more people add great ones!
Okay op first of all this is strikingly breathtaking and I can't believe I'm not looking at a real animal oh my gods!!!!!! 😭😭😭
Secondly I need you to know it looks like my cat
Someone did this in BLENDER and threw it on Tumblr for FREE and Disney with all their custom-made cutting-edge state-of-the-art programs can’t pull off realistic water bubbles and wants you to pay twenty bucks a ticket for it.
Support unions for CG artists. This is what being allowed to have passion looks like.
